As part of the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy’s (LJLA) Brown Bag Series, a programme designed for heads of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to engage the Academy’s Fellows in thought-provoking discussions, the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Sam Egube, while hosting them, shared profound insights on leadership, urging them to strive for excellence in all endeavours.

Drawing from his extensive leadership experience, Mr. Egube encouraged the Fellows to embrace self-determination and intentionality in their pursuit of success.

“Leadership is a deliberate journey, therefore, be intentional about the people you surround yourself with and the collaborations you pursue. Passion fuels success, but above all, strive for excellence in everything you do. Always seek to outdo your past self and guard against self-sabotage” He stated.

The DCOS further highlighted the significance of mental resilience and the critical role of vision and adaptability in navigating leadership challenges. He encouraged the Fellows to develop a clear sense of purpose and remain open to learning from their experiences.

“True leadership begins with clarity of purpose. You must understand the impact you want to create and be prepared to evolve along the way. Challenges are inevitable, but they are also opportunities to grow. Embrace feedback, learn from setbacks, and always approach your journey with integrity and accountability” he added.

The Executive Secretary of LJLA, Mrs. Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, lauded Mr. Egube for his inspiring contributions. “The DCOS embodies leadership principles we aim to instill in our Fellows. His insights today will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression as they chart their own leadership paths” she remarked.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by LJLA Fellow Oreoluwa Afolayan, who expressed gratitude on behalf of the cohort. “We are honoured to learn from Mr. Egube’s wealth of experience. His emphasis on excellence, resilience, and intentionality serves as a call to action for us as emerging leaders and we will embody these values in all our pursuits” he stated.
